Overcome Phobias with Clinical Hypnosis
If you are reading this page, you are not alone. It is estimated that 12% of people experience some type of phobia in their lifetime (Kessler et al., 2005).
Phobias are intense irrational fears related to specific objects or situations. They cause significant distress and lead to avoiding those objects or situations.
There is not an official list of phobias but they normally fall into 5 categories:
- Fears related to animals (dogs, insects, spiders)
- Fears related to natural environment (heights, thunder, darkness)
- Fears related to blood, injury or medical issues (injections, broken bones, falls)
- Fears related to specific situations (flying, riding an elevator, driving)
- Other (fear of chocking, loud noises, drowning)
Traditional treatment options like cognitive behavioural therapy and exposure therapy, have been shown to reduce phobia symptoms. However, a systematic review by Coelho, Canteras, and Fontenelle (2016) analyzed 12 studies investigating hypnotherapy’s effectiveness in treating various phobias found that hypnotherapy was significantly effective in reducing phobia intensity, avoidance behavior, and overall clinical severity. The review also suggested that hypnotherapy was as effective as other evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural therapy.

Hypnotherapy involves inducing a state of relaxation and using hypnotic suggestions to target a variety of problems and conditions, including phobias. By accessing the unconscious mind which influences our emotional and behavioural responses hypnotherapy helps you identify and tackle the root causes of your fears. It can alter negative beliefs, and enhance coping strategies, reducing the severity and frequency of phobias and in many cases, allowing for complete recovery.
